Blink

<blink> turns on blinking text</blink> mercifully turns off blinking text

Blink may well be the most irritating tag available, and not just because it's only supported by Netscape (i.e., it doesn't work on IE). Nonetheless, we feel compelled to tell you about it. Let us be clear: We are not advocating or condoning the use of blink - we are merely telling you how it's done, and advising you to exercise your own judgment on the matter.

The <blink> tag will cause words to flash horrendously over and over and over again. Whatever you put inside the tags will blink on and off, and may hypnotize readers into an unwanted state of catatonia.

You use it like this:

<p>Hey everyone, look at how the <blink>words blink</blink> on and off!

Which becomes:

Hey everyone, look at how the words blink on and off!

Not very pretty is it?

Now, in some advanced browsers (such as Netscape 3.0), the effect is a little less nauseating. These browsers display blinking text by making the words themselves appear and disappear (rather than flashing a highlighted bar on and off). But still, the <blink> tag is bad form. Use it only in emergencies.

Got a handle on it? Now try it yourself.
